Born in May 1950 in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, Dr. Shafik Hussein is a professional dental surgeon who has worked for years in five British national companies. Today, Dr. Shafik Hussein is the principal of the Jamati Institutions at Aga Khan in Aiglemont, France.
In the institution, Dr. Shafik coordinates activities and programs in the 16 main principals of the institution. He also acts in the capacity of the person in charge of the Aga Khan Development network program and principal of all Ismail community institutions in Central Asia.
Dr. Shafik got his doctorate degree from Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School, London University. Through his experience in the medical field, Dr. Shafik has committed his life to upholding voluntary service to ensure the well being of every individual.
He is also a dedicated member of the Aga Khan Institute board of governors and, serves other leadership positions in the Ismaili Imamat and the England community. At his old age, Dr. Shafik has medical intelligence that makes him more preferable to be a member of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) committee.
His knowledge and familiarity in the medical field also attracted a rare position in FOCUS. He is the current chairperson of FOCUS – a humanitarian assistance international coordinating committee. He is also a voluntary member of the leadership committee of the Ismaili International Forum.
Being an enthusiastic and a voluntary health program activist, he has served in many voluntary capacities including the principal of the Ismaili Council for the UK. Dr. Shafik is also the founder of Sussex Health Care – an organization that focuses on improving the services offered to elderly people.
On 15 January this year, Dr. Shafik through Sussex Health Care managed to sponsor six employees at Sussex to attend a level 5 diploma in professional practice at the University of Chichester. During the ceremony, Dr. Shafik said that the sponsored workers’ knowledge and wisdom would play a bigger role in improving the life of Sussex Health Care service clients. He added that one of the major things all Sussex staffs should be proud of is their positive impacts on people’s lives.
Dr. Shafik chief concern in founding Sussex Health Care was to take good care of the elder people, including mentally impaired individuals such as people suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s disorder. Dr. Shafik also focuses his attention on helping adults with learning difficulties including individuals suffering from neurological disabilities.
