Jacob Gottlieb: Biography and works
Born in New York, Gottlieb’s parents were immigrants who settled in the United States in the 1960s. They were both successful experts, his father was a professor of economics at the City University, and his mother was a pediatrician in the city. With parents in these careers, it’s no wonder that Gottlieb took an early interest in both economics and healthcare and that these interests would guide his future learning and career quests.
After his high school education. Gottlieb pursued economics and medicine, and completed a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Brown University, Rhode Island, and a Doctor of Medicine from New York University School Medicine. In his quest to pursue a career in medicine, he finalized his medical internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital. However, he did not proceed with his career in medicine and he decided to pursue a finance career on Wall Street as well as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He was inspired by the stock marked which assisted him to pursue his dream of becoming a financial analyst.
He worked as Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Visium Asset Management, LLC. He founded the firm in 2005, using his knowledge and skills gained from this field. Earlier, he was a Portfolio Manager at Balyasny Asset Management L.P. since 2001. Prior, he worked as the Portfolio Manager at Merlin. Previously, he was a buy-side Analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein. He obtained his Chartered Financial Analyst charter from AIMR 2001.
Robin Hood Foundation having been founded in 1998, was dedicated to addressing issues that are related to poverty in New York City. Knowing the challenges the homeless teen face, the foundation gives support to over 200 poverty fighting organizations. Gottlieb is working with such organizations to provide support to the homeless and street children.
