New technology to make correctional facilities safer has been introduced by Securus Technologies. Wireless Containment Systems are a new technology that prevents contraband cell phones from being used in jails and prisons. The devices look and operate just like a conventional cell phone tower. The difference between the two is that the Wireless Containment System prevents the signal from leaving the facility. This makes it impossible for the inmate to place a call on the network the phone normally has service through. This invention brings a sigh of relief to many facility employees who consider contraband wireless devices to be one of the greatest security threats. To date, Wireless Containment systems have been responsible for stopping well over two million contacts. This is certainly an impressive number.
It’s for good reason that these devices have been identified as such a huge problem. Countless crimes have been aided by the assistance of communication with an illegal device. Robert Johnson, a retired officer, was shot six times in his own home because of communications with inmates via a contraband device. Johnson must live with pain every day; however, he was able to save his wife from being harmed. He’s also dedicated his life to be an advocate for making the new technology mandatory in facilities. He’s also working with Securus Technologies as a consultant to try to get the project moving even quicker. Although the technology has been rather successful thus far; the FCC has already challenged the project from a legal perspective. Having to rework some technical issues, Securus Technologies was successful at making the technology compliant and has continued moving on with the project, as planned.
Securus Technologies has also taken JPay and GovNetPay on as new additions to their family. Through these acquisitions, Securus Technologies is anticipating being able to bring the Wireless Containment Systems into facilities at a much faster rate. These companies are in the financial services area of corrections and are excited to become a part of the Securus Technologies family.
Securus Technologies has over 30 years of experience in communications. The company has worked in recent years to make staying in touch with friends and loved ones more affordable. They’ve also introduced several alternatives to traditional calling plans. Video visitation and other messaging services are popular options. Securus Technologies also provides institutions with software packages, inmate monitoring, and other technology to make employees’ lives easier.
Customer service remains a top priority for Securus Technologies. The company has recently experienced an over 95 percent customer satisfaction rating. Combined with a recent rating of “A+” from the Better Business Bureau; Securus Technologies is taking their obligation of corporate social responsibility to heart. It’s not surprising that Securus Technologies has been making great headlines lately and continues innovating for a bright future.
